The Holy Trinity is the central mystery of our Christian faith and life. It is not a puzzle to solve but a mystery in which we are invited to worship, adore and believe. God has revealed Himself to us so that we know Him, love Him and live in communion with Him. It is the initiative of God. We believe in one God in three Persons, all are equal and sharing the same divine nature. Everything comes from the Father and returns to Him through the Son in the Spirit. We are imago Trinitatis which means that we are created in the image and likeness of God. The deepest truth about us is relationship. We are not created merely to survive, to achieve, to possess or to compete. We are created for communion with God and with one nother. Our soul is made for love. That is why St. Augustine said, “Lord, You created us only for You and our hearts are restless until they find rest in You!” In baptism we are incorporated into the triune God, into the very life of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We belong to the Holy Trinity. We belong to the God who is eternal communion and love. God is never loneliness. God is never isolation. God is communion. The Holy Trinity is a community of lovers: the Father is the lover, the Son is the beloved and the Spirit is the shared love. And our witnessing is authentic when we are instruments of communion and love in the world. In the Gospel of John (3:16-18), Jesus said, “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life!” This is the summary of the whole Bible. God offers His Son willingly and freely to bring the world to salvation. Love prompted the Father to send the Son who is the bearer of the Spirit and the Spirit is the source of eternal life. The mission of Jesus is to save the world and not to condemn it. According to St. John, eternal life is that they should know You, the one true God and Him whom you sent, Jesus. To know in Scripture is intimacy, relationship, friendship, covenant. We are called to participate in the life of God today. Thanks to the self sacrificial actions of Jesus on the Cross, His supreme act of self giving. Believers possess eternal life here and now because the day of salvation is not tomorrow but today. In Jesus we have full access to God. He is the bridge between God and man. He is the marriage between heaven and earth. Therefore, the celebration of the Holy Trinity points to our true dignity and identity. We are completely loved by God and called the temples of the Holy Spirit. It means that we are the effective presence of Christ to the ends of the earth. The Church is the physical presence of Christ in our tormented world today. We are called to mirror in our lives God’s enormous, tremendous, extravagant, excessive love to others. We are called to witness that God’s love will ultimately prevail.
